A weekend in Charlestown MA puts you right in the same neighborhood as one of Boston’s best places to shop for weed. The Heritage Club (THC) is within just a few minutes’ driving time from most of the attractions in Charlestown and right off Interstate 93. 2. Visit the Bunker Hill Monument and take a stroll down Monument Ave.

A visit to Charlestown wouldn’t be complete without an effort to enjoy the historical significance and scenic views of this landmark. During the summer, a stroll down Monument Avenue is perfect and picturesque. You are immersed in the historical charm of the town and within view of the Bunker Hill Monument. Therefore, you get tons of awesome photo ops and feel a bit like you are trekking your way through a still-alive part of the country’s history.

Monument Avenue is filled with antiquated architecture and points of interest, including small museums and mansions that date back to the Gilded Age. Once you make your way to the monument, you can climb the 221-foot obelisk and get an awesome view of the surrounding area.

3. Grab lunch and head to Paul Revere Park

Paul Revere Park rests on the southern edge of Charlestown and this is always a good stopping point if you want to enjoy your summer lunch outdoors. The park has a playground for the kids, a dog park for your four-legged pal, and awesome city and waterside views. A track takes you all along the water, and you can check out the Charelstown Bells on the pedestrian’s walkway path between Charlestown and Boston.

Looking for a good place to grab food before heading to the park? A few local favorites include the Blackmoor Bar and Kitchen, the Prima Italian Steakhouse, and Sweet Rice Charlestown Thai Sushi.

4. Check out the U.S.S. Constitution and the Charlestown Naval Shipyard

If you’re into history, admire the U.S. Navy, or simply want to experience something new, be sure to pay a visit to the U.S.S. Constitution and the Charlestown naval Shipyard. These two side-by-side attractions give you an insightful glimpse into the nation’s naval defense history and what life is like on one of the oldest out-of-service vessels still hanging around.

5. Visit the country’s oldest tavern and strike upon a conversation with a local

Warren Tavern sits just south of Bunker Hill, which is appropriate since the tavern has been around since 1780. Named for the well-known Revolutionary War hero Dr. Joseph Warren, this tavern is warm and cozy in terms of atmosphere and oozes Old-World charm. However, it’s also the perfect place to stop and cool off if you’re exploring on foot during a scorching summer day in the historical area.

Pick a seat, order either a contemporary or vintage drink from the menu, and you’re bound to meet a local eager to talk about area events and happenings. Plus, this is a good place to feed your munchies with a full range of pub-style food to offer.
