As summer settles in and June welcomes us in, June 19th, known as Juneteenth, is a special day to remember. Every year, this day in June marks a day of remembrance for all the Black American individuals in the United States who gained their freedom.
As one of Boston’s Black owned dispensaries, we take pride in supporting other Black individuals in the cannabis business. Take a look at the Juneteenth meaning, as well as some black-owned cannabis brands in Massachusetts to show appreciation for during your planned festivities.
What Is Juneteenth?
Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day or Emancipation Day, commemorates the end of slavery in the United States. It marks June 19, 1865, when Union troops arrived in Galveston, Texas, announcing the end of slavery, two years after the Emancipation Proclamation. Today, Juneteenth celebrates African American freedom and achievement, and serves as a reminder of the ongoing struggle for civil rights and equality across the country.
